# Energy: Steam coal from our own mine in Riau

Kemindo's energy division started in 2013 as a coal trader. We now run our own open-pit coal mine in Riau, with steam coal of GAR 4800–6000 for domestic and export markets.

Kemindo has had an energy division since 2013, starting with coal trading. We now own a coal mine in Riau Province.

At our open-pit mine in Riau, mining includes blasting, removing the overburden, extracting the coal and crushing it. Our coal is high-calorie. We sell it in Sumatra and export it. GAR (gross as received) is the heating value of coal as received.
